Below I’ll go over the Mario Kart 8 Best Combinations. First off, there really isn’t a all time best combination for online. Fortunately though some are better than others. Time trials on the other hand have some big winners. In the end it can come down to a players ability. Being able to handle vehicles well at high speeds and around corners will help loads. There are 30 different characters to choose from and not all are created equal. If there is anything you’d like to add feel free to share it in the comments.
Mario Kart 8 Best Combinations
Online combinations are all over the place. Things have been leveled out so nothing is too awesome. There is however some choices that are better than others. Donkey Kong, Waluigi, Rosalina, Roy, and Koopa Troopa. These drivers will offer a lot of speed without sacrificing to much acceleration and handling. Also has more mini turbo and traction than the super heavy team.
For rides your gonna want to stick with fast rides. They include the Gold Standard, Mach 8, Circuit Special, and Sports Coupe. Mach 8 is available at the start of the game.
Wheels are a little more tricky. If your getting hit a lot by other players use the Roller Wheels. The allow for some really good acceleration. This will let you bounce back from disaster better and comes in handy when getting knocked around a bunch. Slick and Slim wheels are much better for when your not getting pushed around. When your not having problems with other players these will help get you ahead even more.
For gliders handling is the way to go. Gliders that increase movement speed don’t seems to have that much of a bonus online. Though every little bit can help in certain areas.
It’s all about what important to to the player when online. If your having trouble in an area try something that strengthens it. Try different things can also help out a bunch. For some great insight on what to choose check out the Mario Kart 8 Kart Builder. They also have a nifty MK8 App on Google Play.
My favorite driver is Yoshi. He’s not through the roof good. But I seem to have a weird attachment to Yoshi. Probably played too many Mario games over the years.
About 70% of Time Trial players who are at the top of the leader boards use one combination. The super heavy weights include Bowser, Wario, and Morton. They then use the speed bonus karts Gold Standard, Mach 8, Circuit Special, and Sports Coupe. These are the only 4 vehicles with speed upgrades. For wheels they use Cyber Slick or Slick.
Gliders come in two different forms. One will give you better control while in the air. This makes grabbing power up and maneuvering a bit easier. The others allow for more speed through the air. The choice is more about what someone is comfortable with.
This build will sacrifice every stat for speed. Will make recovering from crashes, collisions, and attacks more difficult. Acceleration may be an issue when trying to get back on track. Not recommended for online use.
The main focus for time trial is gonna be speed. Choose what works fastest for you and keep trying. Slower set-ups may get you through easier, but how fast you complete a track is the main focus. This info will get you through all classes without too much trouble, especially 150cc.
Dolphin Shoals – Under Water
This track is mostly under water. The Badwagon, Tri-Speeder, and Steel Driver karts have hidden stats that give them higher under water speeds. These are the best vehicles for this track. For wheels, Standard, Blue Standard, Off-Road, and Retro Off-Road wheels will also help with speed under water.
The stats they show in Mario Kart 8 aren’t exactly accurate. There is actually a whole different set of stats under the hood. Check out the hidden stat chart below for insight into what things really do. Click on it to enlarge.
Knowing where to find all the shortcuts can give a player a big advantage. The below video shows where all there locations are. This will be one of the most important factors in beating opponents.
